Volunteer Spotlight: Samantha Quinn

Meet Samantha E. Quinn, a longtime supporter, and Montefiore Nyack volunteer. Sam is an attorney, mother, and breast cancer survivor, and is serving as a co-chair of Montefiore Nyack Foundation’s new Rides & Strides event to benefit the Breast Center at Montefiore Nyack.

At the age of 47, Sam was diagnosed with an aggressive and locally advanced breast cancer. This April marked five years of her being cancer-free. “As a breast cancer survivor, I am especially honored to be a co-chair of this year’s event to support the Breast Center,” said Sam.

Sam has participated in the Blow Away Breast Cancer 5K event to support the Hospital since 2018, and has raised over $5,000 along with her team Schiavetti Strides.

“I am excited to be part of the team to launch Rides & Strides, offering more ways for people to participate and support this important cause,” said Sam. “Proceeds from the event will provide mammogram services for those who are uninsured, underinsured, and medically underserved. I know that this type of screening saves lives. Had I not been able to afford my screening, I would not be here today.”

The inaugural Rides & Strides event will be held on Sunday, October 23rd at Boulders Stadium in Pomona, NY. The new event offers an opportunity for participants to explore beautiful Northern Rockland and the hills of Harriman State Park with cycling routes, a 5K run/walk, a kids fun run, entertainment, awards, giveaways, and more. Of course, Sam and her team were one of the first to sign up!

“I encourage people to get involved in any way that they can,” said Sam. “Whether you start a team, participate on your own, or make a donation, every little bit makes a big difference.”

Sam, an alumna of Brown University and Boston College Law School, is a partner with the law firm of Schiavetti, Corgan, DiEdwards, Weinberg & Nicholson, LLP, and the head of their appellate practice. Schiavetti, Corgan, DiEdwards, Weinberg & Nicholson, LLP specializes in the defense of hospitals, doctors and other health care providers, and is a proud sponsor of Rides & Strides.

In addition to generously supporting Montefiore Nyack, Sam is a regular volunteer with the Larchmont Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force and a patient mentor for women undergoing breast cancer treatment.
