Transformation Project Update: Building the Future of Care at Montefiore Nyack Hospital

Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s Transformation Project continues to advance with significant milestones that are modernizing the patient experience, strengthening infrastructure and enhancing safety throughout the campus.

This multi-phase initiative reflects the Hospital’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art care close to home while preparing the facility to serve the growing needs of Rockland County for decades to come.

Advancing the Single-Bed Transformation

One of the most meaningful components of the Transformation Project is the conversion of inpatient units to single-bed patient rooms, improving patient comfort, privacy and safety.

The renovation of 4 Maze was successfully completed in November 2024, marking a major step forward in the modernization of the Hospital’s inpatient units. Work is now underway on 5 Maze, with completion expected in May 2026.

Once finished, 88% of the Hospital’s inpatient rooms will be single-bed rooms, a significant advancement that enhances infection prevention, improves the patient and family experience and supports the highest standards of care.

As hospital leadership has often noted, “Private patient rooms are not a luxury—they are an essential part of modern healthcare delivery.”

Strengthening Security and Safety

The Hospital has also taken important steps to further strengthen safety for patients, visitors and staff. A weapons detection system has been installed in the main lobby and at the entrance to the FJ Borelli Family Emergency Department, providing an additional layer of protection while maintaining a welcoming and accessible environment for those entering the Hospital. These security enhancements reflect Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that everyone who walks through our doors feels safe and supported.

Investing in Critical Infrastructure

Behind the scenes, significant work continues to strengthen the Hospital’s core infrastructure.

As part of a major electrical infrastructure project, preparations are underway to install a new emergency generator in September, ensuring continued reliability and resilience for critical hospital operations.

At the same time, the Hospital is implementing flood mitigation measures, including the installation of flood gates designed to protect ground floor areas that have experienced flooding during severe weather events in the past. These improvements will help safeguard vital hospital services and equipment during future storms.

Looking Ahead: The New Patient & Visitor Reception Center

The next exciting phase of the Transformation Project will be the creation of a new Patient & Visitor Reception Center, designed to enhance the arrival experience for patients and guests who enter the Hospital. This welcoming space will provide improved navigation, enhanced hospitality and a more modern first impression that reflects the exceptional care delivered within the Hospital’s walls.

None of these important advancements would be possible without the generosity of the Hospital’s philanthropic community. We are deeply grateful to the many donors whose support continues to help transform Montefiore Nyack Hospital and strengthen healthcare in Rockland County.
