When Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse Julia Crosby retired after a more than 40-year career, staying home was not on her radar. She had her heart set on continuing to give back and for the last two years, Julia has been volunteering at Montefiore Nyack.

“I began volunteering during COVID, helping to vaccinate members of the community and employees. I managed our informational booth at the Nyack Farmers Market for Breast Cancer awareness and I was invited to work on the Rides & Strides fundraiser. I thoroughly enjoyed it all!” Julia said.

During her career at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, Julia experienced incredible innovations in the field that led to improved patient outcomes. This brought her incredible satisfaction. She enjoyed collaborating with her colleagues, spearheading project work and presenting ideas at national nursing conventions. Although, most rewarding for Julia was her ability to make a difference in the lives of families and their babies. “Taking part in their care, watching them get better and grow healthier so they could finally go home … that is why I did this for so long,” she said.

Since joining the Montefiore Nyack family, Julia has lent a hand in so many areas of need. “I love working in the Volunteer Department to support Department Head Helen Hayes Perkins, who I must say is amazing! I also enjoy working in the gift shop at the hospital. Volunteering at Montefiore Nyack is extremely rewarding. You meet new people, form new bonds and enrich others through compassion and knowledge. I encourage everyone to try it!” she said.
