This spring, the beloved Physicians’ Ball returns with a bold new twist as the Derby Royale Gala — The Physicians’ Ball Reimagined gallops into Edgewood Country Club on Saturday, May 9, 2026 for what promises to be one of the most exciting nights in the hospital’s history.
Hosted in partnership with the Montefiore Nyack Hospital Foundation, the inaugural Derby Royale Gala will bring together physicians, staff, community leaders and supporters for a night of celebration, gratitude and spirited competition — all in support of our extraordinary community hospital.
This year’s event will proudly honor Dr. Carin Shapiro, a beloved Primary Care physician at Highland Medical, whose dedication to patients and families has left an indelible mark on the community. As Dr. Shapiro prepares for her retirement, the evening will celebrate her remarkable career and lifelong commitment to compassionate care.

The evening will feature:
- The Winner’s Circle Awards Ceremony honoring Dr. Shapiro
- An elaborate dinner-by-the-bite culinary experience
- Gaming tables throughout the evening
- Desserts and entertainment to close out the celebration
- Electronic horse racing that will have guests cheering from the rails
From the first toast to the final race, Derby Royale will deliver an unforgettable night of fun and philanthropy.
Introducing “Name Your Horse”
One of the most exciting and interactive opportunities of the evening is the “Name Your Horse” Sponsorship.
Supporters will have the chance to name one of the electronic racehorses featured in the Derby Royale races, bringing their creativity — and competitive spirit — to the Derby track.
Imagine the excitement as the announcer calls out names like:
- Nyack Thunder
- The Healing Hoof
- Foundation Flyer
- Shapiro’s Champion
Throughout the evening, guests will gather around the race screens cheering for their favorite horse — and the sponsor who named it.
For $1,500, sponsors will have their horse’s name (or company logo) displayed on the race screen, receive recognition in the Derby Royale program and event signage and enjoy VIP bragging rights as they cheer their horse down the stretch. And if their horse wins? A special prize awaits.
