Donor Spotlight: The Stapleton Family

The Stapleton Family have been dedicated supporters of Montefiore Nyack since 2014. After moving to Pearl River in 2013, Noel Stapleton and his wife Nikki heard about the Hospital’s Blow Away Cancer 5K to benefit the Breast Center, and as competitive athletes they registered to participate. They soon realized that the event was more than just a road race, and the next year they formed a team.

Noel was especially inspired to start a team after his mother Eileen, who lives in Ireland, was diagnosed with breast cancer. He named the team Get Busy Living — the mantra his family has lived by for years. When his mother was diagnosed, it made sense to use that phrase as a team name too.

Noel recruited his wife Nikki, his brothers – Tom, PJ, Mike & Sean, his younger sister Kate and other family members to build their team. Their first year participating, Get Busy Living won the award for largest team at the event. In 2019, the Stapleton Family took top honors for raising the most money with a total of $19,200.

“Every woman deserves to be screened for breast cancer even if she doesn’t have insurance,” says Noel. “Early detection is critical in fighting the disease, and we’re proud to play a role in making sure more women in our community have access to screening services.”

Since 2014, Get Busy Living has raised $66,233, and they’re still going. The team will be participating in Montefiore Nyack Foundation’s new event Rides & Strides taking place on Sunday, October 23rd at Boulders Stadium in Pomona, NY.

Rides & Strides offers participants the opportunity to explore beautiful Northern Rockland and the hills of Harriman State Park by biking one of our cycling routes or joining the 5K/Run Walk. Enjoy a socially distanced, fun-filled day for all ages with a kids fun run, entertainment, giveaways, awards, and more – all in support of a great cause! Proceeds from Rides & Strides will ensure that those who are underinsured, uninsured, and medically underserved receive the screening services they need on an annual basis.

“We’re looking forward to participating in Rides & Strides and hope that more teams will join in this important fundraising effort,” says Noel. “Unfortunately we all know someone who has been touched by breast cancer in some way. Rides & Strides is a great way to give back and help our community.”

We’re grateful to team Get Busy Living and the Stapleton Family for their continued support!
