In 2021, we lost a dear friend and longtime Montefiore Nyack Hospital supporter, Leonard M. Kurz. Leonard was the son of Herbert & Edythe Kurz where their philanthropic support fills the four walls of our Hospital. Three prominent Hospital areas are named after the Kurz Family including: the Edythe and Herbert Kurz Pediatric Emergency Room, The Edythe Kurz Center for Sleep Medicine and the Edythe & Herbert Kurz Neonatal ICU.

An inspirational filmmaker and recreational photographer, Leonard believed the biggest benefit of being a philanthropist is that it fulfills some of our deepest human needs. Under Leonard’s leadership, the Kurz Family Foundation did exactly that, transforming philanthropy in Rockland County and beyond. It was his mission and honor to keep his parents’ legacy alive by generously donating to a number of Rockland non-profits including Montefiore Nyack Foundation. Leonard passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021, just shy of what would have been his 68th Birthday on November 21.

Although Leonard’s life ended before we were ready, the time that he spent in our lives was memorable and full of joy. May his memory and philanthropic support continue to be a blessing for all.
