Community Connections: Celebrating Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week

October 5–11 marked Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week, a special time to recognize the hardworking individuals who nourish and care for our patients, visitors and staff every day. In 1989, Congress officially recognized the first full week of October as Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week to honor these essential team members and their invaluable contributions to the healthcare community.

Our food services team plays a vital role in keeping our hospital community healthy, happy and energized, feeding us all every day. In 2024 alone, the department prepared and delivered more than 200,000 meals to our patients, a remarkable testament to their dedication and impact.

Montefiore Nyack Foundation was proud and honored to celebrate this incredible team with a special treat. A heartfelt thank you to Bongo’s Fries food truck for bringing delicious fries and fun to this well-deserved celebration. We were so happy to give back to this amazing team who gives so much to all of us every day.

We were especially grateful to Board Member Doug Katz and his wife, Geanette, who generously donated a 65” LG TV to be awarded to one of our outstanding food service employees during this celebration, adding an extra touch of appreciation for their dedication.  Congratulations to David Navarro for being chosen as the winner!

To all our food services staff: thank you for your hard work, dedication and for keeping everyone nourished every day!
