Community Connections: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Third-party fundraisers are important in carrying out Montefiore Nyack Foundation’s mission to build enduring community relationships that promote and financially support Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s comprehensive state-of-the-art medical care, exceptional programs, and outstanding patient experiences.

While the past two years have been challenging when it comes to hosting events, that hasn’t stopped community supporters from finding creative ways to fundraise. During the month of October, we had the support of several fundraisers that raised money to support the Breast Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We’re grateful to Andrea Collier, JVH Performance, Brighton at the Shops at Nanuet and Carousel Cakes for choosing to support Montefiore Nyack!

Andrea Collier - Yoga from Home

We met Andrea Collier at the Piermont Oktoberfest. She made her way through the crowd to meet us to learn how she could host a fundraiser to support the Hospital, and we’re so grateful she did. Once a month, Andrea offers a donation-based Zoom yoga class to support local charities. One hundred percent of the proceeds from her October Yoga from Home class were donated to the Breast Center.

Participants in the all level yoga class enjoyed some stretching, flow and a bit of restorative yoga. Andrea is a Yoga Alliance Certified Instructor with certifications in Yoga Therapy and Yoga for Cancer. She currently teaches at Vision and Retro in Pearl River, Valley Lifestyles in Mahwah and corporate yoga.

JVH Performance - Sqautoberfest

Coach Stephen Passanante and JVH Performance hosted Squatoberfest on Saturday, October 30th. The gym, located in Stony Point, held the event in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“It’s so nice to see everybody happy and giving back,” said Coach Stephen. “The Hospital was able to help my grandmother when she was diagnosed, and whatever we can give to help someone else, it means a lot to me.”

The event, which included squatting (of course), games, refreshments and other fun activities for all ages was a huge success!

Brighton - Power of Pink

Brighton at the Shops at Nanuet raised funds to support the Breast Center with their 2021 Power of Pink campaign. The store’s team raised money throughout the month of October with a portion of sales from Brighton’s “Power of Pink” bracelet, which was designed to be a beacon of hope & inspiration for those touched by breast cancer.

The annual Power of Pink campaign raises awareness to help women get the education, screening, and support they need.

Carousel Cakes - Let’s Defeat Breast Cancer Together

Carousel Cakes raised funds to support the Hospital again this year through their Let’s Defeat Breast Cancer Together promotion. The family bakery, based in Nanuet, raised money and awareness throughout the month of October for Breast Cancer research and treatment with a portion of the sales of their delicious Pink Velvet Cakes and Cupcakes.

Carousel Cakes Owner, Nancy Finkelstein visited us to personally present a check to Dr. Sunny Mitchell, Medical Director of the Breast Center.

Carousel Cakes believes in giving back. They support the local community throughout the year with bake sales, sponsorships, donations, and fundraisers.
